Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, the trainee should be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and regulatory role of an aircraft Minimum Equipment List
  • Distinguish between an MEL, MMEL, and other aircraft configuration or maintenance documents
  • Determine whether an inoperative item may be deferred under the applicable MEL
  • Interpret MEL conditions, limitations, placarding requirements, and required maintenance or operational procedures
  • Recognize the responsibilities of flight crew and maintenance personnel when operating with deferred defects
  • Apply appropriate procedures when an inoperative item is not covered by the MEL or when required conditions cannot be met
