Course Overview
This course provides aviation personnel with practical knowledge for recognizing and responding to fire hazards. It reviews basic fire behaviour, extinguisher types, safe extinguisher use, aircraft and workplace fire considerations, and the actions required when a fire cannot be controlled safely.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, the trainee should be able to:
- Recognize common classes of fire that may be encountered in an aircraft environment
- Identify the appropriate type of portable fire extinguisher for different fire hazards
- Explain the basic operating principles and limitations of common aircraft fire extinguishers
- Apply safe procedures when approaching and fighting a small fire
- Recognize when a fire cannot be safely controlled with a portable extinguisher
- Describe appropriate post-fire actions, including monitoring for re-ignition and reporting the event
