Course Overview

Recurrent training on pilot-monitored approach concepts, crew roles, approach preparation, monitoring, visual transition, transfer of control, missed approaches and threat management. Operator SOPs and aircraft-specific procedures remain controlling.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, the trainee should be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and threat-management value of a pilot-monitored approach
  • Distinguish PF and PM responsibilities during preparation, approach, visual transition and landing
  • Apply disciplined monitoring, challenge-and-response communication and intervention principles
  • Manage the transition from instrument references to visual references without creating a monitoring gap
  • Recognize conditions requiring a missed approach and maintain effective crew coordination during the go-around
  • Apply PMA principles to realistic low-visibility and high-workload approach scenarios
